0.5cupchopped walnuts (optional for added texture)
1pinchsalt
Instructions
Start by rinsing the fresh cranberries thoroughly under cold water. Discard any bruised or overripe berries to ensure the best flavor.
In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the rinsed cranberries, orange juice, and granulated sugar. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
Gently stir the mixture as it heats up, ensuring that the sugar dissolves completely for a smooth sauce.
As the mixture comes to a gentle simmer, reduce the heat to low. Stir in the ground cinnamon, ground ginger, orange zest, and a pinch of salt, enhancing the flavor profile.
Allow the sauce to simmer for 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally as you watch the cranberries burst open, releasing their juices and creating a thicker consistency.
If you chose to include walnuts for an extra crunch, stir them in during the last 5 minutes of cooking, allowing them to infuse their flavor into the sauce.
Once finished, remove the saucepan from heat and set it aside to cool. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools, providing a wonderful texture.
Finally, transfer the sauce into a serving dish or an airtight container. It can be enjoyed warm or chilled, depending on your preference.
Notes
Can be enjoyed warm or chilled. Walnuts are optional for added texture.
